Total Protection® Body Shield Glow SPF 50

UVB exposure causes redness or burning, while UVA exposure causes skin darkening/pigmentation. Protection from both UVA and UVB means this product provides Broad Spectrum protection. 

Total Protection® No-Show™ Body Shield and Body Shield Glow SPF 50 sunscreens provides Broad Spectrum SPF 50 (UVB protection). Testing is currently in progress to determine their PA rating. 

The PA rating system measures the level of protection from UVA rays, which are known to cause pigment darkening in the skin. It measures the amount of time a product would protect your skin from darkening. 

The following shows how much protection each PA score provides compared to unprotected skin. If your unprotected skin normally darkens/pigments after 5 min of UVA exposure:

EnviroScreen® Technology is proprietary to Colorescience®. EnviroScreen® Technology uses patented active ingredients, Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, that create a barrier preventing free radical formation and oxidative stress. These patented actives are combined with specialty ingredients that, together, work synergistically to protect skin from damage caused by exposure to UVA/UVB rays, pollution, blue light (also known as High Energy Visible, or HEV, light), infrared radiation, and free radicals. 

Colorescience® follows the FDA guidelines for testing water resistance or adherence to the skin after exposure to water. A panel of 10 people apply the product to their skin prior to being immersed in a whirlpool (of moving or circulating water) for 20-minute cycles. After 20 minutes in the whirlpool, panelists exit the whirlpool before immersing themselves again. For 40 minutes water resistance, panelists are immersed in the water for two 20-minute cycles. For 80 minutes water resistance, this is done a total of 4 times. After all cycles are completed, the SPF that is remaining on the skin is measured. If after 80 minutes in the whirlpool, the SPF remaining is at least 50, the result is an SPF 50 with 80 minutes of water resistance. 

We measure our pollution protection by directly measuring free radicals created from UV + pollution events on unprotected skin and skin protected with Total Protection® No-Show™ Body Shield SPF 50 and Total Protection® No-Show™ Body Shield SPF 50. We use a testing technique called electron spin resonance (ESR) that uses a combination of a magnetic field and electron magnetic waves to directly detect the unpaired electrons of free radicals. 

Blue (HEV) light protection is tested by measuring the ability of the formula to block light in the HEV spectrum that would otherwise reach the skin. In practice, this is done by applying the formula to a transparent substrate at the same dose level (2mg/cm2) used in the FDA Monograph SPF test. The substrate is then placed at the entrance of an integrating sphere detector which captures all the light passing through the sample. This configuration is the same as that used in the FDA Monograph Critical Wavelength measurement and mimics the situation of a formula applied to the skin. The percentage of HEV light blocked is calculated by comparing the intensity of the light transmitted through the formula to the incident light at each wavelength throughout the HEV spectrum (400–490 nm). 

In addition to being a powerful sunscreen active ingredient, zinc oxide, used in both products, also provides the therapeutic benefit of defending against blue light.  Total Protection® No-Show™ Body Shield SPF 50 was tested to protect skin from 44.6% of blue light.  For additional defense, follow with one of our Total Protection® Brush-on Shield SPF 50 brushes.  

Body Shield Glow SPF 50, which contains both zinc oxide and a minimal amount of iron oxides to complement the pearlescent pigments and achieve the Glow, provides 57.5% defense against blue light.  

The No-Show™ Body and Body Shield Glow formulas as not the same formulations in larger sizes as their Face counterparts. The body formulas were formulated specifically to offer hydration and antioxidants for the body in a texture that feels like a daily body lotion but with powerful, all-mineral SPF.   

The body shield formulas are emollient and moisturizing formulas using squalane and jojoba seed oil. No-Show™ Mineral Sunscreen for face and Face Shield glow are an oil-free, non-comedogenic formula that also hydrates within the skin using silver ear mushroom extract, leaving a silky finish that is ideal for layering under makeup. The face formulas also contain a higher amount of specialty antioxidants for more powerful free radical defense against aging for our more delicate facial skin that sees more exposure than most of our body which is often covered with clothing. 

Last, Face Shield Glow SPF 50 contains a higher amount of iron oxides which helps to offer more blurring and skin tone balancing than Body Shield Glow SPF 50 which has trace amount of iron oxides and is therefore, more sheer.

Total Protection® No-Show™ Body Shield SPF 50 does not have a color or tint to it, so there will be no transfer onto clothing.  It is white when dispensed and blends away sheer, so your skin looks beautifully like your skin. Body Shield Glow SPF 50 contains pearlescent pigments and minimal iron oxides. Any transfer would be shimmer and minimal.  

No-Show™ Body Shield SPF and Body Shield Glow SPF 50 are lightweight lotion formulas that blend into skin so easily and quickly.  Skin is hydrated and left with a velvety, soft finish.  

Total Protection® No-Show™ Body Shield SPF 50 is formulated without any color or tint to It as was designed to work for all skin tones.  It has been tested to wear sheer for a wider range of skin tones.    

For deeper skin tones, apply gradually in small amounts, blending in between layers until the full amount is applied. This will ensure you have applied the amount needed for full SPF coverage and will better help to achieve the No-Show™, white-cast free aesthetic.  

Before each use, shake well with cap upright. Lightweight texture may dispense quickly. Apply liberally and evenly prior to sun and environmental exposure. As with all sunscreens, reapply at least every 2 hours.  

Pro Tips:   

-For deeper skin tones, apply gradually in small amounts, blending in between layers until the full amount is      applied.  

-Avoid exposure to extreme heat. Tightly close the cap after each use.  

As with all SPF products, Total Protection® No-Show™ Body Shield SPF 50 and Body Shield Glow should be applied 15 minutes prior to exposure. Like all SPF products, reapply every 2 hours. 

Apply Total Protection® No-Show™ Body Shield SPF 50 and Body Shield SPF 50 liberally and evenly 15 minutes before exposure to environmental aggressors. Like all SPF products, reapply at least every 2 hours as recommended by the FDA and the Skin Cancer Foundation.  

Total Protection® No-Show™ Body Shield SPF 50 and Body Shield Glow SPF 50 were formulated with squalane and jojoba seed oil that help to hydrate and nourish and can serve as a daily body lotion or moisturizer. If you prefer to use another moisturizer, apply it first, rather than mixing with the Body Shields. This will help to avoid diluting the amount of SPF you are applying and will ensure you apply enough to achieve SPF defense.

These products have not been tested for use around the eye area.  Use caution when applying to the eye area and avoid getting product into eyes. Consider some of our non-liquid SPF products, including Total Eye® 3-in-1 Renewal Therapy SPF, Total Protection®: Brush-On Shield SPF 50, Sport Stick SPF 50, or Color Balms SPF 50.  

Yes, Total Protection® No-Show™ Body Shield SPF 50 and Body Shield Glow SPF 50 are water/sweat resistant for 80 minutes. Re-apply at least every two hours and after swimming, sweating, or towel drying.  

Total Protection® No-Show™ Body Shield SPF 50 does not contain color, so there will be no transfer onto clothing. Body Shield Glow SPF 50 contains pearlescent pigments and minimal iron oxides. Any transfer would be shimmer and minimal.  

Wash with soap or cleanser and warm water. Body Shield Glow SPF 50 has superior adhesion to skin and you may find that using your favorite body cleanser and gentle scrubbing with a cloth or loofah will be most effective.  

Total Protection® No-Show™ Body Shield SPF 50 and Body Shield Glow SPF 50 have a 3-year expiration period. After the product has been opened, it should be used within 12 months. See bottom of carton for exact date. 

Yes, No-Show™ Mineral Body Shield sunscreen is safe to apply to 6 months and older. As with all sunscreen products, consult your physician for use on children under 6 months of age. All Total Protection® products use only non-chemical zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide as sunscreen active ingredients.  The FDA recognizes only these two sunscreen active ingredients as safe and effective. The sunscreen active ingredient in No-Show Body Shield SPF 50 is zinc oxide.  

No-Show™ Mineral Body Shield and Body Shield Glow have not been tested on pregnant or nursing women. Consult your physician before using.  

Yes, the sunscreen active ingredient in both products is zinc oxide.  Colorescience uses only mineral (also known as physical) sunscreen active ingredients, zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide, in all our sunscreen products.  These are the only 2 sunscreen actives the FDA recognizes as safe and effective. Colorescience has never and will never use any chemical sunscreen actives.

No-Show™ Body Shield SPF 50 and Body Shield Glow SPF 50 do not contain any chemical ingredients, including oxybenzone nor octinoxate, which are the 2 ingredients that are deemed to be damaging to coral reefs. It is important to note that some sunscreens that are referred to as "reef-safe" contain other chemical ingredients – avobenzone, octisalate, homosalate, octocrylene.  Colorescience has never and will never use any chemical sunscreen actives. The sunscreen active ingredient in No-Show Body Shield SPF 50 and Body Shield Glow SPF 50 is zinc oxide. 

No, No-Show™ Body Shield SPF 50 and Body Shield Glow SPF contain jojoba seed oil used as an emollient to hydrate and condition skin. No-Show™ Mineral Sunscreen and Face Shield Glow can be used for face and are free of oil.   All Colorescience® products are 100% free from parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrance, animal testing, talc, dyes, mineral oils, drying alcohols & chemical sunscreen.

No, both No-Show™ Body Shield SPF 50 and Body Shield Glow SPF 50 contain ingredients derived from corn.  For a body SPF that does not contain corn-derived ingredients, consider Total Protection® Body Shield Classic SPF 50 which is a tinted, all-mineral option that also offers sun and environmental defense.

Many people confuse butyloctyl salicylate with chemical sunscreens because they are often used together, and because the compositional structure of butyloctyl salicylate is in the same family as some chemical sunscreen actives. 

Butyloctyl Salicylate is a multifunctional ingredient and dispersing agent ideal for use in a variety of products such as sunscreens, skin care, and color cosmetics. It is typically used to solubilize and stabilize chemical sunscreens which we don’t use (avobenzone, oxybenzone, octinoxate, homosalate, octocrylene) or as a dispersing agent for mineral sunscreens, which can assist in SPF effectiveness by aiding in even and thorough dispersion, since proper dispersion leads to a better application and product consistency in terms of sunscreen actives (Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide). Since mineral sunscreens are insoluble, it is especially meaningful to have a superior dispersion. It also supports in making formulas cosmetically elegant, offering excellent spreadability and a moisturizing feel.
