Anti-Pollution Sunscreen
FAQs
WHAT IS ANTI-POLLUTION SUNSCREEN?
Broad-spectrum SPF shields against the sun’s UVA and UVB rays that are responsible for harming skin and accelerating the signs of aging. However, scientists have recently discovered that there are elements in the environment below the ozone layer known to aggravate our complexion.
Anti-pollution sunblock* is necessary to ward off the damaging properties of particulate matter (PM). Toxic air contains incredibly tiny particles called PM2.5 that can easily penetrate cell tissue. If absorbed by the lungs, they can cause a wide variety of health problems—ranging from respiratory infection to heart disease and lung cancer—but as it turns out, they can harm skin vitality, too.
PM2.5 particles infiltrate pores and cause unstable particles known as free radicals to erratically bounce against cellular walls. This process accelerates the body’s natural aging process, leading to early onset of wrinkles and hyperpigmentation, but anti-pollution SPF can help by putting up a fight against free radicals in addition to UVA and UVB rays.
HOW DOES COLORESCIENCE ANTI-POLLUTION SUNSCREEN WORK?
Our physical sunscreen sits on top of skin to shield against environmental aggressors that can attack your cells without you even knowing. Polluted air particles can impair the skin barrier, break down collagen, cause inflammation, and weaken cellular elasticity, but we’ve formulated our anti-pollution sunscreen with key ingredients to treat this damage and prevent worse from occurring.
Between the sun and the air we breathe, our delicate skin is up against a tough battle. Unfortunately, the problem doesn’t stop there. LEDs and digital devices emit high energy visible (HEV) light, also known as blue light, that has become increasingly problematic as we spend more time looking at screens close to our faces. Uncontrolled and frequent exposure to infrared radiation has also been linked to skin damage, which means anti-pollution sunblock* is necessary for everyone—not just those living in large urban cities.
Our Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ line of enviroscreen is strategically formulated to block and counterbalance free radicals coming at you from every angle so you know that your skin is safe no matter where you live or what the environment throws at you that day.
IS SUNSCREEN GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT?
Not all sunscreens are safe. for the environment. Chemical ingredients commonly found in many formulas have shown to contaminate water systems and cause coral bleaching—so some states, such as Hawaii, have banned them altogether in favor of coral reef safe sunscreen. Chemical SPF often contains ingredients that can harm our bodies and our ecosystems, so it’s important to shop for sunscreen without oxybenzone and similar toxins to protect your health.
Colorescience offers organic and healthy sun protection free of harsh additives. Our non-toxic sunscreen is good for the environment and gentle enough for all skin types. We make anti-pollution skincare an effortless part of your morning routine, so pick your favorite formula and put up your defense today.
*Sunblock is not a term approved by the FDA. Colorescience refers to our products as sun protection.
