IS SUNSCREEN SAFE FOR MY BABY’S SKIN?

Your baby’s skin is extra sensitive to just about every outside element as they’re being introduced to new things every day. Protecting your baby’s skin from UV light is especially important to prevent skin cancer and other dangerous heat-related illness. But many sunscreens on the market use harmful chemical ingredients that can irritate skin and may cause other negative side effects, including:

  • Oxybenzone:

Oxybenzone is a common chemical filter that absorbs UV light before it reaches the skin, and can also seep into the body and remain there for an unknown period of time. Oxybenzone is a toxic ingredient that’s been linked to hormone disruption, early onset puberty in girls, and even skin cancer.

  • Retinyl Palmitate:

This chemical is a synthetic form of vitamin A, and can potentially form lesions when applied to skin in the sun. It can also cause acute toxicity if vitamin A is over-applied or consumed. Symptoms of a toxic reaction include changes in vision, bone pain, and skin damage.

  • PABA:

PABA is another popular chemical that blocks UV light irritates skin. Exposure to PABA can result in redness, swelling, inflammation, and itching. It can also darken skin pigmentation and contribute to skin cancer. Colorescience offers PABA-free safe sunblock* for babies to protect their skin without causing irritation.
Colorescience offers the safest sunscreen for babies over six months old, rich with natural physical sunscreen ingredients that protect your baby’s skin for the sun while also nourishing it.

ARE THERE SAFE SUNSCREEN ALTERNATIVES FOR MY BABY?

Absolutely! When purchasing any product for your child, you want to make sure it only uses the best, safest ingredients available. Colorescience safe sunscreen for babies only uses skin-friendly ingredients and gentle minerals to shield their sensitive skin without causing damage or posing harmful side effects. Plus, our safe baby sunscreen with 50 or 30 SPF is easy to apply and totally mess-free. Our SUNFORGETTABLE® TOTAL PROTECTION™ BRUSH-ON SHIELD is an all-mineral SPF powder for sensitive skin so busy parents can reapply on-the-go without the sticky, greasiness of conventional sunblocks*. Or, opt for our liquid formula SUNFORGETTABLE® TOTAL PROTECTION™ FACE SHIELD SPF 50 that’s lightweight, hydrating, and never greasy.

WHAT INGREDIENTS DOES COLORESCIENCE USE IN THEIR SUNSCREEN?

Our safe sunscreen for babies only uses high-quality ingredients (no fillers) with gentle minerals like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to deflect UV light without seeping into the skin.

HOW ELSE CAN I PROTECT MY BABY’S SKIN?

Using a safe baby sunscreen is the most important step in protecting your child’s skin— but parents should always take extra steps to keep them safe from the sun! Cover up your baby’s skin while out and about in the sun with hats, long-sleeved shirts, pants, and rashguards when swimming. Minimize your baby’s exposure to the sun and heat by avoiding the outdoors between 10-2pm, and keep them in the shade whenever possible. And even if the sun’s not totally visible, you should still apply baby sunscreen to make sure they’re safe from UV rays.

*Sunblock is not a term approved by the FDA. Colorescience refers to our products as sun protection.
