Sport Sunscreen

Sunscreen is always essential, no matter what you’re up to. While we all need a little vitamin D, unprotected sun exposure can lead to temporary burns and lasting cellular damage. Even when you’re on-the-go, it’s important to apply sport sunscreen that can keep up with your active lifestyle. Whether you use it for daily SPF before heading out the door, or keep it on-hand to reapply throughout the day, Colorescience sport sunscreen is safe, effective, and hassle-free for the entire family.

How are sport sunscreens different from regular sunscreen?

Traditional liquid sunscreen formulas can be thick, gooey, and often run when exposed to water or sweat. Spray-on sunscreens can also be oily and slide off during increased activity, causing skin to look shiny, feel slimy, or lead to a burning sensation if it drips into eyes.

Sport sunblock* is different. Colorescience sport sunscreen is light, leaves hardly any residue, and won’t run under the sun. The application never feels greasy, even when you turn up the heat. Colorescience uses natural, scientifically tested materials in all of our skincare formulas, so when you purchase our sport sunblock*, you know you’re only getting the highest quality ingredients. These are some features that set our sport sunscreen apart:

  • EnviroScreen® Technology is designed to protect your skin not only from the sun, but also from environmental aggressors that may damage and dry out skin. Many sunscreens are designed to block UV rays from causing cellular harm, but they neglect to protect your skin from other hazards such as blue light, infrared light, and air pollution. Our signature EnviroScreen tech keeps you and your family safe at every corner.

  • UVA and UVB protection keeps the sun’s harmful rays from damaging skin, even on the hottest days. It’s critical that you choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against both types of UV rays, as too much of either can lead to sunburns, premature aging, and in some serious cases, skin cancer.

  • Antioxidant-rich minerals protect you from environmental contaminants and free radicals, which may also play a role in skin cancer development. Some sunscreens protect you from the sun but expose you to harmful chemicals, thereby swapping one problem out for another. Our formula is made from all-natural minerals that will defend against free radicals without exposing you to any harsh, irritating, or toxic chemicals such as oxybenzone.

  • The family-friendly ingredients list is free of parabens, sulfates, and chemical fillers that can irritate young, developing skin. Kids are especially in need of a sunscreen they can wear without fear of itchy, allergic reactions. You can feel confident applying and reapplying Colorescience sunscreen on the entire family, knowing that only wholesome ingredients will come into contact with skin.

Plus, our sport face sunscreen comes in a convenient stick that’s easy to apply. You don’t have to bother with messy liquids or aerosol sprays that tend to blow away in the wind. Simply rub the stick on skin and use your fingers to blend as needed.

When should I use sports sunscreen?

Any time you’re in the sun, sport sunscreen is a good idea. It’s ideal for days when you’re on-the-go and need a quick and easy to apply. It also comes in handy when you’re exercising outdoors and breaking a sweat—think morning jogs, hikes, golfing, tennis, or whatever your favorite activity might be.

Ordinary sunscreen may be suitable for a casual walk in the sun, but in those situations, you’re less likely to encounter sweat that causes sunscreen to smear. Once you dial up the intensity, however, it’s a good idea to invest in a sport sunblock* that can keep pace.

Sport sunscreen can be a smart choice for those who wear contact lenses when engaging in sports activity; nobody wants sunscreen running down into their eyes, but the situation can be even worse—and sometimes, potentially dangerous—for those who wear contacts. Ordinary sunblock* contains a wide variety of chemicals that can be damaging to your eyes, especially when pinned between the lens and the surface of your eyeball. By using a light, oil-free sport sunscreen, you can prevent that pain and inconvenience while still protecting your face from the harmful rays of the sun.

Colorescience sport sunscreen is also ideal for those with sensitive skin that might get irritated by the chemical formulas found elsewhere. For those with more sensitive skin, Colorescience offers several benefits:

  • PABA-free sunscreen provides a solution to those sensitive to this ingredient, which is commonly found in sunscreen formulas and other skincare products. Our PABA-free sunscreen is also alcohol-free, so it won’t dry out your complexion.
  • Hypoallergenic sunscreen for sensitive skin is clinically tested to reduce irritation and prevent future flare-ups from ruining your outdoor fun.
  • Titanium dioxide sunscreen uses all-natural minerals to defend against the sun while avoiding harsh irritants for gentle yet effective protection.

Whether you’re hitting the trail or taking the kids to a tournament, or you’re just looking for a natural, skin-friendly SPF, you can rely on Colorescience sport sunscreen for full protection.

How often should I reapply sports sunscreen?

Everybody’s skincare needs, activity level, and sweat production are different, so the answer will depend on a few factors. The best practice is to reapply every 90 minutes of sun exposure, but there are some situations where you should think about reapplying more often.

  • Fair complexion: Those with lighter skin are often more sensitive to the sun and might burn more easily when exposed without adequate protection. If you have lighter skin and burn easily, it can be wise to reapply every hour that you spend outside. Those with tan or darker skin should also still reapply frequently, as it’s still very possible to damage skin cells even though they may not appear burned.

  • High activity: If you’re running, hiking, or playing sports outside for an extended time, your sweat may start to wash away the sunscreen you applied prior to getting started. Colorescience’s sunscreen holds up well against sweat for over an hour, but it’s wise to reapply—especially to exposed areas like your neck, ears, and face—every time you stop for a break. If you tend to sweat a little more than average, be sure to reapply more frequently.

  • Water sports: If you’re in the pool or at the beach, your sunscreen might be washed away by the water. You should apply sunscreen half an hour before you get in the water to give it time to settle on your skin, making it harder to wash it away. Be sure to reapply frequently if you’re swimming for an extended period of time to maintain SPF protection.

Colorescience sport sunscreen makes it easy to defend against the sun all day, so you and the family can ward off burns and protect skin health without the mess or hassle.

*Sunblock is not a term approved by the FDA. Colorescience refers to our products as sun protection.
